It’s a month since the North East – and BBC Newcastle – was taken over by rain on Thunder Thursday and for many families across the North East home life is all about phone calls to insurance companies and pleading with busy builders to come a bit sooner.
But most insurers won’t pay for a 5 day speed-dry so families have to wait 3 months before any work can be started on stripping back the damaged floors and walls and making the house liveable again. That means finding accommodation for up to a year and with so many families affected that’s getting harder and harder.
