Spike in TV Recycling after Olympics and Digital Switchover

Have you got a new TV this year?

Recycling centres have seen a few booms in the numbers of Tvs coming to them: first there was January, after people got new ones for Christmas, then there was another spike around June – possibly because people upgraded their telly in time for the Olympics, and now there’s been another one after the digital switchover here in the North East.

So where do all these TVs end up? And how much of them can be recycled?

Many of the North East’s council-owned recycling centres are run by a company called Sita. I went to one of them in Northumberland:
