Blaydon Races 2012: 150th Anniversary of the Song

On Saturday 10th June 2012 the heavens opened with fury on the North East but it didn’t stop the 32nd Blaydon Race on the 150th anniversary of the famous song.

I was at the finish line in Blaydon:

And the first runners were Kenyan and Ethiopian:

I interviewed 18 year-old Kenyan Peter Lemuya, who won the 5.9 mile race with a time of 27 minutes and 35 seconds. That’s fast.

And BBC Newcastle’s Total Sport presenter Simon Pryde was just 10 minutes behind him – and made me eat tripe live on the radio:
