How the North East Created Team GB’s Olympic Rowers

It’s the year of the rowers. GB’s first gold was earned by the women’s pair. Then a bronze for the coxed men’s 8. Then yesterday a silver for the men’s 4 – coached by Durham University‘s Rob Morgan. And then Durham’s Jess Eddie got to the final of the Women’s 8 final:

That’s Durham University coach Wade Hall Craggs, brimming with pride over the 21 former Durham students who’ve gone on to represent their country in the last 8 years. Unfortunately the Women’s 8 came 5th but still amazing to be in the final.

But our North East rowing talent doesn’t stop there… it was then the turn of Tynedale’s very own Matt Wells. He rowed in the men’s quadruple sculls final.

And there’s not one but two rowing clubs who were on the edge of their seats, nervous with every stroke:
